Jerry Childers Sr.

GREENVILLE — Jerry Don “Chili” Childers Sr., 70, of Farmersville passed away June 21, 2013, at Medical Center of Plano. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Higher Trails Cowboy Church in Merit with Pastor Randy Bird and Jerry Don’s son, Pastor Jerry Don Childers Jr., officiating. 

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Born Feb. 2, 1943, in Hunt County, Jerry Don was the son of Alton M. and Ila Mae (Poe) Childers. On July 1, 1966, in Durant, Okla., he married Linda Horton.

He was a retired detention officer from the Collin County Sheriff’s Office. He was a member of Higher Trails Cowboy Church in Merit. 

His survivors include his wife of Farmersville; sons Pastor Jerry Don Childers Jr. of Bogata and Gary Childers of Farmersville; sisters Yvonne McCrary of Farmersville and  Pam Bench, Aleta Miller, and Lou Walding, all of Greenville; grandchildren Tasha Garret and Cara, Shelby and Tyler Childers; great-grandchildren Graham and Kylan Childers; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leon and Kenneth Childers.
