LANDRUM SHAEFFER

Tyler — Landrum Cross Shaeffer, 68, went to be with his Lord on Feb. 4, 2013. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Burgess Auditorium of Grace Community Church/School, 3001 University Blvd. in Tyler. Inturnment will be at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Lanny was born on March 4, 1944, in Paris, Texas, to Fred and Mavis Shaeffer. After graduation from Paris High School he served as an Aero Medical Specialist, Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from East Texas State University and served in various capacities in sales and management. As a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Greenville, Lanny served as a deacon and teacher of a men’s Sunday school class. At age 58, he went to school at Amarillo College to become a radiation therapist. He served for 10 years at the Texas Oncology Tyler Cancer Center.

Lanny and his wife, Wanda, just celebrated 45 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Randolph B. Shaeffer.

Surviving are a son, Barry Shaeffer of Chicago, Ill.; daughter Allyson Neighbors and husband Matthew and daughters Hannah and Eleanor of League City; a sister-in-law, Suzette Shaeffer of Fresno, Calif.; brother Daniel and wife Gale of Lockney; and several nieces and nephews.

As a patient at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Lanny influenced the nursing staff to read some of his favorite books that could minister to people facing serious illness. In his honor, the nurses established the Landrum Shaeffer Book Club as part of the Virginia R. Cvetko Patient Education and Support Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Landrum Shaeffer Book Club, Cvetko Center, 3410 Worth Street, Suite 200, Dallas, Texas 75426, or to a charity of choice.
