GREENVILLE — John Preston Crofford, born Oct. 8, 1935, passed from this life Feb. 7, 2014 at Medical Center of Plano.  He had been in and out of hospitals since 2010 and was “ready to meet his maker.”  Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Layman and Rev. Royce Litchfield officiating.  Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.  Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

John graduated from Quitman High School and then joined the Army during the Korean War, serving his time based in Germany.

John accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was nine-years-old and was a member of the Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville and the most caring Sunday School class ever.
