Mackie Don Babers, 76, of Celeste, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. His loving family was by his side at his home in Celeste.
He was born on Aug. 6, 1937 in Gober, Texas to Morris Shepherd Babers and Lexie Juanita (Woodson) Babers. He grew up in Celeste after moving from Gober. He married Georgann Hackney on June 21, 1958. They were blessed to have 55 years together.
Mackie Don taught Sunday School at First United Methodist Church of Celeste, belonged to Miller Lodge 224, was a 32 Degree Mason, was on the Celeste School Board and was Treasurer of Texas Southwest Cattleman’s Association. He loved farming on his land and was an engineer at both Texas Highway Department and Temco. He retired from Richardson Fire Department as a captain.
He is survived by his loving family: wife, Georgann; son Jeffrey Alan Babers; daughters Kristi Denise Richards and husband, Benny and Karen Leah Jones and husband, John; grandchildren, Deaven, Levi and Luke Babers, Kaitlin and Erik Richards, Tripp and Haylee Hemphill and Justin Mitchell.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at First United Methodist Church of Celeste with visitation on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will be at Gober Cemetery in Gober.
His sons-in-law and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
