Merry Thompson

QUINLAN — The world has lost an amazing mother, protector, hero and friend.

Merry Elizabeth Thompson, originally from Greenville, Texas passed away in her home in Rowlett at the age of 58, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Greenville, Texas on March 2, 1955 to Merry and Lonnie Foster and was the youngest of three children. Throughout her life she embodied the very definition of humility, honesty and love. She was the best of all of us. Her laugh was infectious and her heart was made of gold. She loved us, her children, fiercely and her grandchildren were her world.

For most of our lives she was a single mom with a full time job, going to night school and working towards her college degree. It took ten years, but she never gave up, finally earning her bachelors degree in Business Administration from Amber University. That enabled her to develop her career at L-3 as a Program Manager, overall earning her an award-winning career that spans over 25 years with the company.

We take great pride in her tremendous work ethic and drive.  Her determination was greater than anyone we have ever known. But even though she was incredibly dedicated to her work – it was always to ensure her children were provided for. She has always taken care of us and we have a feeling she always will.  

She is survived by her sister, Wrenda Francis; brother, Charles Foster; daughter, Nicole Fikes; son-in-law, Gary; son, Ben Thompson; daughter-in-law, Jenny; and her two grandchildren Jessica Thompson and Emmy Fikes; not to mention a wealth of close family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at the chapel of Coker-Mathews on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with a graveside service immediately following at Memoryland Memorial Park.  Dr. John T. Tate will be officiating.  Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Stan Francis, Corey Francis, Jeremy Francis, Jessie Francis, David Asbil, and Brad Helton.
