Janet Brown

GREENVILLE — On Feb. 18, a beautiful baby girl weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces, was born to Johnnie and Alice Ashby Smith of Saltillo, Texas. She was named Janet.

Janet passed away on Dec. 26., 2013, in McKinney,.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m., at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, with Rev. Royce Litchfield officiating.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. until service time on Sunday. Burial will follow at the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery.

Janet was the fourth child born into the family, making two boys and two girls. She made the perfect balance until a little sister came along six years later, of whom Janet was just a little jealous.

Janet was sickly as a small child, but by the time she attended Saltillo High School, she was well and excelled in her school work as in every endeavor later in life.

She married J. R. Brown and moved to Dallas where she worked for a cardiologist for a number of years before transferring to an airline insurance company where she was promoted to underwriter. She and J. R. moved to Greenville later but she remained with an insurance company until her retirement.

Janet accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville.

She is survived by a loving sister, Barbara Smith Self; devoted companion, David Ayers; beloved cats, Pretty Boy and Tiger Brown; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and her spiritual family at Highland Terrace Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Travis and Leo Smith, and sister Mildred Smith Horn.

Pallbearers will be Roy Rayburn, Chuck Foti’, Jim Dilavore, Jim Finney, Clyde Dennis, Bill Maroney, David Watson, and Larry Branscum. Honorary pallbearers will be all the members of the Shepherds Flock Sunday School Class.
