Melvin Hartwell Smith of Bonham passed away June 9, 2013, at Medical City in Dallas
A family visitation will be at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
He was born March 16, 1941, in Hunt County to William Hartwell Smith and Vera White Smith. He married Charlotte McDonald on April 20, 1963. He retired as a buyer from Procter and Gamble in Dallas in 1992 and as manager of the Procter and Gamble Employee Credit Union in 1997.
Melvin loved life and found joy in the simple things in life. He was an avid reader and took pleasure in his spare time reading the many books in his library. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Garland Smith and Derrell Smith.
He is survived by his wife, son, Brent Smith of Fairview, son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Paige Smith of Bonham; grandchildren, Greer and Eli Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Jean Smith of Maud, Texas, and sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Ted Tingle of Celeste; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his “other brother,” Jerry Swindell of Celeste.
