Guilty pleas expected in deadly conduct cases

GREENVILLE — A local man could plead guilty this week to two counts of deadly conduct, for allegedly shooting at two people in November.

Steven Morris Shelton, 54, of Greenville, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty during a February hearing in the 196th District Court to two charges of deadly conduct by discharging a firearm. A trial date has not been set in the case.

Shelton is currently scheduled to enter new pleas to each count during a hearing in the court Wednesday.

Shelton remained in custody at the Hunt County Jail Friday, in lieu of a total of $120,000 bond on the charges.

The indictments allege Shelton fired at, or in the direction of, one male and one female victim on Nov. 6, 2013.

The charges are third degree felonies, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from two to 10 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
