Having fun the old fashioned way

Museum hosting Frontier Days Saturday

GREENVILLE — There was a time when children didn’t spend all of their waking hours online, playing video games or watching television.

The Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum will be revisiting that time Saturday, by taking a step into the past as it hosts the annual Frontier Days.

The event is designed to show children what life was like during an era when the sources of entertainment were not based on electronics.

Children will have a chance to participate in a variety of games, watch demonstrations of crafts, learn archery, shoot a BB gun, make campfire biscuits and home-made butter and more.

Games will include marbles, horseshoes and sack races. Children can learn to make a leaf painting, find “treasure” in the corn bin and more.

All of the activities will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum, 600 Interstate 30 East in Greenville.

Admission is $5 per child, ages 4-15, with one adult free for each paid child and includes admission to the museum. After that, it will be $5 per adult. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Those wanting additional information can call the museum at 903-450-4502.
