Guilty plea in armed robbery case

GREENVILLE — A local resident has admitted to being one of three people who acted together in a summer 2012 armed robbery during which a man was beaten.

Christy Stone, 20, is the second person to plead guilty in connection with the incident.

Stone, Dominque Ashley and Caunte Howard, 17; and Christy Stone, 19, all of Greenville, each received one indictment in February for aggravated robbery.

The three were alleged in the indictments to have acted together to assault a male victim by striking him with a stick and/or a glass bottle while in the course of committing a theft on July 31, 2012.

All three individuals were reported arrested on Aug. 2, 2012.

During a Wednesday morning hearing in the 196th District Court, Stone pleaded guilty to the aggravated robbery charge.

Under a plea bargain arrangement, Stone was placed on 10 years of deferred adjudication probation, with 150 hours of community service and a $500 fine.

Deferred adjudication probation carries no finding of guilt, although those defendants who are found to have violated a deferred probation are subject to being sentenced to the maximum punishment.

Stone was facing a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000 upon conviction for the first degree felony charge.

Ashley was also indicted on one count of fraudulent use/possession of between five and 10 items of identification information.

Ashley was alleged to have stolen and/or used the robbery victim’s driver’s license number, name, date of birth, Social Security number and credit card numbers.

Ashley pleaded guilty in May to the fraud indictment and to a reduced charge of robbery and was sentenced to five years in prison.

A trial date has not yet been set in Howard’s case.
