GREENVILLE — The area’s young bicycle riders will have a chance this weekend to demonstrate their skills and maybe get a free helmet to help protect them on their two-wheel journeys.

The Hunt County Youth Alliance is presenting a bicycle rodeo between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club/Reecy Davis Center, 4320 Lee Street in Greenville. The free event is open to children ages 4-15.

Children should bring their own bicycle and protective gear, if possible. However, the Alliance will be providing a limited number of helmets for those children who do not have their own.

Parents will need to fill out a release of liability form for each child to participate and the forms will be available at the location prior to the event.

The funding for the helmets is being provided by the Texas Medical Association Foundation’s “Hard hats For Little Heads” program.

The event is also being sponsored by Brookshire’s, Walmart, Super 1, Chick fil-A, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, Hunt Regional Medical Center, Hunt Regional EMS, the City of Greenville police and fire departments and AirEvac 67.

Those wanting more information about the event can call 903-455-9885.
