Parade to celebrate ‘Songs of Christmas’

GREENVILLE — It is not too early to start thinking about Christmas, as the City of Greenville Wednesday announced this year’s downtown Christmas Parade will be at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 6. The theme for this year’s parade is “Songs of Christmas.”

As has been the tradition, those parade watchers who line up early will be able to hear holkday tunes from the Phoenix School Choir, who will be performing in front of the Hunt County Courthouse.

Staging for the parade will be on Jordan Street, with vehicles entering Jordan from Johnson Street, facing eastward. Staging will begin at 2 and conclude at 6 p.m.

Judging will begin at 5:30 p.m. and plaques will be presented for the Grand Marshal’s Award (first place overall), Mayor’s Award (second place overall), Theme Awards, Spirit of Christmas Awards and Automobile Awards.

The parade begins at the corner of Bois D’ Arc and Lee Streets, travels westward on Lee, south on Wright Street, east on Washington Street and finishes at Stonewall Street, turning south to exit downtown.

Marching units, equestrian entries and all vehicles not legal for normal street traffic will continue east on Washington to Market Square.

No entry fee is required to participate in the parade. All floats must have holiday lighting and all entrants must be pre-registered at www.ci.greenville.tx.us/parade thru Dec. 4.

Those wanting additional information can contact the Main Street Office at 903-457-3138.
