Greenville Floral and Gifts to distribute 600 flowers tomorrow

Bouquets will honor local heroes, spread good will through community

GREENVILLE — Sept. 11, 2001 is a day that will live in infamy forever, a day that many Americans remember as one of the most terrifying and horrific they have ever experienced.

But, after that tragic day, individuals and groups throughout the country have come together to memorialize those who lost their lives, support our armed forces and focus on strengthening the bonds that tie our communities together.

One of those bonds is the concept of a neighborhood: families who interact with and entertain each other simply because they live next door.

This year, it so happens that the 19th annual F.T.D. Good Neighbor Day also falls on Sept. 11. According to F.T.D.’s website, each year hundreds of F.T.D. florists across the U.S. and Canada spread friendship and kindness to their neighbors by distributing free floral bouquets. Luanne Dickens, owner of Greenville Floral and Gifts, located at 6008 Wesley Street, participates every year. Considering the significance of Sept. 11, Luanne will be going all out this year.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 11, Luanne will distribute a dozen roses to the first 50 guests (a total of 600 roses) to promote Good Neighbor Day and to honor local heroes. Each guest will keep one for themselves and then hand out the remaining 11 to friends, family and neighbors.

“I just like it,” Luanne said of the event. “I love giving things to people, and I feel like this will make people smile.”

The roses arrived on Sept. 10, and Luanne said that people have been calling the store to ask when they open.

“It’s all about spreading good will to the community, and I believe this is something our community could use right now,” she said.
