LP Waters closed for clean-up

GREENVILLE — A local school campus will remain closed for the foreseeable future, as crews continue efforts to clean up a backed up sewer.

Students from the LP Waters Early Childhood Center returned from spring break Monday and once again attended classes at nearby Carver Elementary School. Greenville Independent School District officials said the arrangement will continue until further notice.

Greenville ISD Director of Community Services Kelli Tharp said Blackmon Mooring, restoration and remediation company, has been involved with the remediation project since before spring break.

“They are working diligently and are trying to get it cleaned up as quickly as possible,” Tharp said.

An open house which had been scheduled at LP Waters tonight has been postponed as has a talent show which had been planned at the campus Friday. Tharp said new dates will be announced once the problem is corrected.

“It is a clean up of the problems caused by the sewer,” Tharp said of the issue had resulted the students be periodically bussed from LP Waters to Carver, due to the odor.

A main sewer line leading to the school had been blocked on or about February 24, causing sewage to back up and leak under the school.
