American heroes were honored Saturday morning during the Hunt County Veterans Day Parade through downtown Greenville.
The event, sponsored by the American Red Cross of Hunt County, featured an assortment of marching groups, classic cars, floats and the Hunt County Sheriff’s Posse on horseback, as it ventured west along Lee Street from Market Square to Stonewall Street and then turned on Washington Street to return to the starting point.
Multiple events are scheduled Monday during the Veterans Day holiday.
— Greenville Elks Lodge No. 703 is inviting veterans of all military branches to a free Veterans Day breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Elks Lodge, 3504 Wesley. Those wanting more information can call Janet at 903-408-7372.
— The annual Greenville Independent School District Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Greenville High School gymnasium. A lunch catered by the GHS Culinary Arts class will follow the program in the library for all veterans and their families.
— The Leonard Independent School District annual Veterans Day program is scheduled in the high school cafeteria starting at 9 a.m. Monday, although veterans are being asked to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to register. A reception for guests follows the program in the high school library.
— The Rains High School annual Veterans Day program is scheduled in the high school gym at 9:45 a.m. Monday, with a reception honoring the veterans starting at 9 a.m. Monday. All veterans, their families and friends and public are invited.
— There are several Veterans Day programs in the Quinlan Independent School District Monday. Speaker James C. Baynham, who flew in the World War II U.S. Army Air Force, will be featured at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the W.H. Ford High School auditorium Monday. Also, the D.C. Cannon Elementary’s program starts at 8:30 a.m., and the A.E. Butler Intermediate School program begins at 12:30 p.m. Monday, both also in the high school auditorium. A luncheon for veterans will be held in the high school band hall at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Veterans should RSVP by calling 903-356-1619.
