Highway 34/Wesley Street speed limits to change

GREENVILLE — Motorists driving along State Highway 34/Wesley Street in Greenville will soon have to negotiate new speed limits along the roadway.

In short, the farther south they get, the faster they can legally drive.

The Greenville City Council is scheduled to vote on the new rules established by the Texas Department of Transportation, with the included as part of Tuesday’s regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Greenville Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is also set for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

In a memo to the council, City Manager Massoud Ebrahim said that, as has been the case in other recent cases, TxDOT is recommending the new speed limits based on a just completed traffic study of the roadway.

Starting at the intersection of Business U.S. 69D, motorists will be able to proceed southerly at 30 mph for about a quarter mile, at 35 mph for 1.85 miles, at 40 mph for the next 1.613 miles, and then 55 miles for just under another mile until the south city limits of Greenville.
