Residents of two area communities have come together to support the family of a young boy, killed in a Monday night accident near Caddo Mills.
Funeral services for 8-year-old Brandon Ivy, a third grade student at Griffis Elementary School Elementary School in Caddo Mills, have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at Faith Bible Church in Caddo Mills. Services are through Lynch Funeral Home in Caddo Mills.
The accident was reported at around 5:30 p.m. Monday. Personnel from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Hunt County Sheriff’s Office, Caddo Mills fire department and emergency medical units were dispatched to report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at 4294 FM 36 South.
Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said Ivy was running across the highway, chasing his dog, when he was struck by a pickup at the location. Ivy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The public was invited to participate in a memorial ceremony on the parking lot of Citibank in Caddo Mills. Individuals were asked to hang signs with the number 6, Ivy’s football jersey number with the Caddo Mills Youth Sports Association (CMYSA), and bring ribbon, tape and scissors.
Officials with the Caddo Mills Independent School District announced Tuesday that family and friends are making T-shirts with Brandon’s picture on them and his jersey number on the back.
The shirts are $10 each, with the proceeds going to the family and are available by contacting Cleta Battson by Thursday at 903-513-4995 or email@example.com.
Those wishing to make contributions direction can make a check payable to the Caddo Mills Youth Sports Association at PO Box 162 Caddo Mills TX 75135 or drop it off at a local Citibank location.
The town of Farmersville was also reported Tuesday to be joining in the effort, with employees at the Sonic Drive-In hanging football signs and with the city’s little league football teams planning to host a bake sale to raise funds.
