Council to canvass election results

GREENVILLE — The Greenville City Council intends to meet Tuesday to make the results of Saturday’s municipal and special elections official.

The Council also will host a reception Tuesday evening to welcome a new Council member and welcome back a returning member, while saying thanks to one of their own who is stepping down.

The Council is scheduled to convene a special session at noon Tuesday in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street, to canvass the results of the elections, during which voters approved bonds for a new YMCA/event center, said yes to issuing bonds to rebuild nine local streets, reelected Place 1 Council member Dan Perkins, elected Place 2 member James Evans and passed 30 amendments to the City of Greenville Charter.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Council is scheduled to host a reception in the Municipal Building for Perkins and Evans and also for Dr. Joe Perks, who is leaving the Place 2 seat on the Council after choosing not to seek reelection.
