FISH garden party Saturday

GREENVILLE — A local service organization is offering the public a chance this weekend to get a first-hand look at how it helps feed the community.

Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH) is hosting a garden party and plant sale, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the FISH headquarters, 2805 King Street in Greenville. The day will include tours of the FISH Community Garden, refreshments, a special Mother’s Day project for children, a plant sale and a potting event.

Volunteers clean and prepare the 25 available garden plots for the coming planting season, which are rented for $15 per plot each year . Each gardener maintains their own plot from planting to harvest.

FISH maintains its own vegetable garden as part of the program, while many of the people who maintain plots provide their surplus crops to the agency.

Anyone wanting to know more about a space in the FISH Community Garden can call the Hunt County Shared Ministries office at 903-455-0545.
