Car show rolls on to new site

GREENVILLE — The 10th Annual Roger Krodle Memorial Car Show kicked off on Saturday; this time at a different venue from the previous year.

The show was relocated to the Family Fellowship Church, which was also the title sponsor for the event, at 401 Division Street in Greenville. In previous years, the show was staged at the Hunty County Fairgrounds.

A total of 88 classic cars and trucks were registered for the event, and prizes were handed out to the top two in each of the 20 categories of vehicles. The 88 entrants marked a slight increase from last year’s turnout.

Taking the top award for the best car was a ‘67 Chevelle. Other awards were a ‘51 Ford for Best Rat Rod, a ‘36 GMC for Best Truck, and a ‘37 Packard Sudan for Best of Show.

A ‘56 Ford took the Special Olympics Pick, and a ‘34 Cheverolet was awarded the Krodle Family Pick.

The Krodle car show proceeds went to benefit the Hunt County Special Olympics Booster Club.

Rick Kohn, a coordinator for the Special Olympics Club and cousin of the late Roger Krodle, said he was satisfied with the turnout at the new location.

“I am extremely pleased,” he said. “A big thanks to all at the Family Fellowship. I really enjoyed the new venue.”

The show was first conducted back in July 2004 as a memorial for Roger Krodle, a classic car enthusiast and member of the Greenville Antique Car Club, who died in July 2003.
