Hunt County tornado designated as an EF-1

GREENVILLE — Hunt County was hit by an EF-1 tornado Thursday night, with winds of up to 112 mph and a path up to 200 yards wide.

Hunt County Director of Homeland Security Richard Hill, who also serves as the county's emergency management director, said the ruling was made by disaster assessment teams with the National Weather Service, who toured the affected areas in the northern half of Hunt County Friday afternoon.

Two homes were completely destroyed while a dozen more residences were left uninhabitable by the storms, with five people reported receiving injuries.

A complete story is being prepared for Saturday's Herald-Banner.
