Senate Democrats currently stalling Senate Bill 5

Austin — A filibuster is in full force on the floor of the Texas Senate as Senate Democrats work to keep Senate Bill 5, a controversial bill that contains several pieces of legislation relating to abortion.

Democrats hope to keep the Senate from voting on the bill by the midnight deadline tonight, which would mark the end of this special session. Dr. Bob Deuell, who represents Hunt County, openly debated for the bill on the floor Tuesday afternoon and said that he hoped Gov. Rick Perry would call another special session if the filibuster is successful.
