Haggard concert set this week

GREENVILLE — Country music fans have a chance this week to catch a legend performing live at Greenville Municipal Auditorium (GMA).

Officials with the GMA and the United Way of Hunt County are presenting Merle Haggard in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, during an evening which will also feature Hunt County’s own John David Kent.

GMA Venue Manager Kimber Patterson said approximately 1,200 tickets had been sold for the concert as of Friday.

Haggard is known for hits such as “Mama Tried”, “Okie From Muskogee”, “Workin’ Man Blues” and dozens more, has won just about every music award imaginable — both as a performer and as a songwriter — and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994.

Kent is considered one of the hottest new artists on the Texas music scene and is currently on his third consecutive top twenty single on the Texas charts.

Tickets for the concert are on sale online at www.ShowtimeAtTheGMA.com and at the GMA, 2821 Washington Street. Ticket prices range from $45 to $65. For more information call 903-457-2994 or visit the GMA website, www.ShowtimeAtTheGMA.com.
