Severe weather possible early Thursday morning

GREENVILLE — Severe thunderstorms could be crossing the region early Thursday morning, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

It is also expected to be much cooler, bordering on being cold, by Thursday night.

A hazardous weather outlook issued by the agency warns of the potential for damaging winds and large hail in the area during the predawn hours Thursday, and a slight chance of tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

The forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms likely after 1 a.m. Thursday Some of the storms could be severe. Winds will be out of the north with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Showers and thunderstorms are also likely before 1 p.m. Thursday, with high near 64 and winds changing to the north northwest gusting as high as 30 mph.

Skies will clear Thursday night, with a low around 38.
