Christmas shines brightly

GREENVILLE — The City of Greenville now has two brightly lit Christmas trees, following Monday night’s Christmas on the Square event.

Christmas on the Square, the 23rd annual Christmas tree lighting event, was presented by the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department and is the first of two Christmas-related events postponed until this week, due to the effects of the ice storm.

Mayor Steve Reid threw the switch to light up two 15-foot tall trees, which will remain lit in front of the Hunt County Courthouse each night through the end of the year.

Christmas on the Square also featured carriage rides, the announcement of the “Christmas on the Square” Coloring Contest winners, a performance by Studio A Dance Company and pictures with Santa Claus.

The “Downtown Christmas Parade”, with the theme “Songs of Christmas” will begin at 7 p.m. Friday. Beginning at 6 p.m. that evening, citizens will be entertained by the festive sounds of the Phoenix School Choir at the historic Hunt County Courthouse.
