Board of Development wants to make Farmers Market improvements

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Farmers Market downtown is in line for some future improvements, provided the City Council approves an agreement to lease out the property to the Greenville Board of Development.

The board wants to make some capital improvements to one of the buildings at the location and is seeking to lease the property, rent free, from the city for five years.

The council is scheduled to consider the proposal during Tuesday’s regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is also set for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Under the agreement, the city would lease the Farmers Market to the board for five years, through December 2018, with an option for another five years. Exactly what improvements the board has in mind is not included under the agreement, but it specifies the improvements would be made to the structure at the northwest corner of Lee and Gordon Streets. The board in turn would pay all utilities, taxes and fees associated with the property.
