Greenville man escapes custody, captured 30 minutes later

GREENVILLE — A Greenville man was on the run for approximately 30 minutes this afternoon before being captured by members of the Hunt County Sheriff's Office and the Greenville Police Department.

Corey Michael Prado, 21, of Greenville was being transported from the annex building to the Hunt County Jail when he escaped, throwing away his jumpsuit in a dumpster. He was apprehended near Bourland and Wright streets.

Prado was arrested on June 16 due to an arrest warrant out of Dallas County for assault/family violence. Sheriff Randy Meeks said that Prado will now be charged with felony escape.

"It was not a smart move," Meeks said.

According to Meeks, this is the first incident of this kind since he took office as sheriff.
