Donations being collected locally for tornado victims

GREENVILLE — A local church and supermarket have teamed up to receive donations for the victims of Monday’s devastating tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.

David Stewart with Highland Terrace Baptist Church, 3939 Joe Ramsey Boulevard, and Brookshire’s Food and Pharmacy, 6410 Wesley in Greenville are taking monetary donations or contributions of supplies, which will be delivered to Moore Friday.

A donation center will be set up inside Brookshire’s between 6 and 7 p.m. today and all day Thursday and also at The Lighthouse at the Church this evening.

Organizers are seeking donations of water, diapers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, formula, dog and cat food, work gloves, non-perishable food items, energy bars, flashlights and batteries and trash bags.

Students at Lamar Elementary School and the Brookland Learning Center in Greenville are also accepting donations which will be taken to the drop off locations.

Stewart and his team plan to head out to Moore at 10 a.m. Friday.
