Firefighters fight five-alarm blaze

High winds helped fan a Friday morning fire in the Waco Bay subdivision of far south Hunt County, which destroyed a residence despite the efforts of more than a half-dozen fire departments.

What became a five-alarm blaze broke out at around 11 a.m. Friday, according to Hunt County Fire Marshal Richard Hill.

“The fire was on East Catfish Drive at a single family mobile home” Hill said. “The high winds caused the firefighters a lot of problems.”

Units and personnel from the Tawakoni South, West Tawakoni, Cash, Caddo Mills, Union Valley, Ables Springs and Rolling Oaks fire departments responded to the location. The fire was reported to have begun in the home, but was fanned by winds gusting out of the north at up to 30 mph.

“We had additional structures which burned, but they were structures on the same property,” Hill said. “The fire was contained to the property.”

The home was a total loss. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire had not been determined as of Friday afternoon.
