Aggravated robbery trial under way

GREENVILLE — A trial is underway for a Hunt County man, charged with aggravated robbery in connection with a reported armed holdup in March of last year.

Scott Hall Gouak Jr., 31, of Quinlan, is also facing a separate charge of tampering/fabricating physical evidence. A trial began Monday before 354th District Court Judge Richard A. Beacom. The trial is scheduled to continue, starting at 10 a.m. today.

Gouak received one indictment for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon from the Hunt County grand jury in October and had pleaded not guilty.

A Hunt County Sheriff’s deputy was on routine patrol early on the morning of March 23, 2012 and noticed a disturbance next to a  pickup parked near the intersection of County Road 3523 and FM 2101. The deputy noticed one subject in the vehicle and two additional subjects next to the vehicle arguing.

The driver of the vehicle had reportedly transported Karli Louise Brumit of Rowlett to a residence at the location and as he assisted her with her belongings he was confronted by Gouak, allegedly armed with a pistol. Brumit and Gouak were alleged to have made off with $380 in cash.

Brumit pleaded guilty in September 2012 to two counts of aggravated robbery, one of which was the same robbery in which Gouak is charged, and one count of burglary of a habitation and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The tampering indictment involves a charge filed by the Texas Highway Patrol in connection with a incident on June 4, 2012.

Gouak is facing a maximum sentence upon conviction of from five to 99 years to life in prison on the aggravated robbery count and from two 10 10 years in prison on the tampering charge.
