Pre-dawn fire claims residence

GREENVILLE — A Greenville residence was destroyed in an early Wednesday morning fire.

City of Greenville Public Relations Liasion Autumn Barton said fire department units responded to the fire at the one-story home in the 1900 of Stanford Street at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“It was fully involved when they arrived,” Barton said, adding the residence was unoccupied when the fire started. “It was under control by 3:10 a.m.”

Greenville Fire Marshal Greg McDonald examined the scene later in the day Wednesday.

“The cause of the fire is not yet determined,” Barton said. “They are still investigating.”
