CADDO MILLS —  Two kids from Boy Scout Troop 1410 posted the colors during the candlelight vigil held in honor of their 8-year-old friend Brandon Ivy, who was killed by a truck Monday when trying to save a stray dog.

“At the last minute we were asked to post the colors,” Don Polhans, leader of the troop said. “The two boys that are posting were friends with Brandon.”

More than 200 people came out to the vigil, and Randall Bost, pastor of Faith Bible Church in Caddo Mills, the community will help strengthen the family.

“Tonight many families are going through the same sorrows the Ivy family are going through,” he said. “But some don’t have a community as this. He is no longer here physically, but is in a place that has been prepared for him. We stand with the family tonight.”

Jaymeson Polhans, a member of the Boy Scout Troop 1410, said he enjoyed playing with his friend at Griffis Elementary School.

“Every time his mom substitued I would play with Brandon,” he said.

According to Bost, prayer and support are needed for the Ivy family.

“Many have called us to pray and support the family,” he said. “The pain that the Ivy family feels is real, but our God is real and He will heal their pain.”

Ivy played football for the Caddo Mills Youth Sports Association, and Kelly Lewis, a coach for the association, said Ivy lived strong.

“This kid was just full of life,” Lewis said. “Always had a smile on his face.”

Lewis said Ivy made an impact on everyone around him.

“It’s hard to explain how it was to be around him,” he said. “He was a joy to be around. He was just that kind of kid.”

Signs with Ivy’s number 6 jersey were hung all through town, and T-shirts with Brandon’s picture on the front and jersey number on back will be sold for $10 by Cleta Battson, with all proceeds going to the Ivy family.

Battson can be contacted by Thursday at 903-513-4995 or at cletabattson@gmail.com

Those wishing to make contributions direction can make a check payable to the Caddo Mills Youth Sports Association at PO Box 162 Caddo Mills 75135 or drop it off at a local Citibank location.
