Grand jury returns indictments in armed robberies, shootings

GREENVILLE — The Hunt County grand jury returned indictments Friday in connection with multiple alleged armed robberies from earlier this year.

A Wood County man was accused of using a BB gun to hold up a Greenville convenience store in July, a local man was charged with shooting another individual during a robbery in May, and another Greenville man was alleged to have used a knife during a hold-up in May.

A Greenville man was indicted on charges of aggravated assault and deadly conduct, for allegedly being involved in two different shootings in July.

The grand jury returned a total of 70 indictments Friday, including 30 charges issued sealed pending the arrest of the person or persons named in the indictments.

— Timothy Wayne Fortune, Jr., 23, of Greenville, received one indictment for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Fortune remains at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $500,000 in connection with the an incident on the afternoon of July 11 at a store at 3805 Lee Street. The indictment alleges he robbed the business while displaying a BB/pellet gun.

— Willie Frank Jackson, 55, Greenville, was indicted on one count of aggravated robbery. Jackson was alleged in the indictment to have shot a male victim in the leg while in the course of committing a theft on May 21.

— Odis Dewayne McCrary, 30, of Greenville, received one indictment for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. The indictment alleged that McCrary threatened a female victim with a knife while in the course of committing a theft on May 19.

— Royce William Tawater, 26, of Greenville, received one indictment for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one indictment for deadly conduct. Tawater was alleged in the assault indictment to have pointed a handgun and/or fired the gun at a male victim on July 1. The deadly conduct indictment alleged Tawater fired in the direction of a residence in the 3900 block of Sayle Street on July 27.
