Not guilty pleas entered on charges

GREENVILLE — A local man has pleaded not guilty to multiple indictments in connection with an incident last month where he was allegedly found to be in possession of firearms.

Christopher Stephen Martin also remains in custody on charges related to a reported January 15 robbery/shooting in Greenville.

Martin was arraigned Wednesday on three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, during a hearing in the 196th District Court. Judge Steve Tittle accepted the not guilty pleas and scheduled an interim hearing for March 19.

Martin, 31, of Greenville, received the indictments from the Hunt County grand jury in January, in connection with a January 2 incident in the 1200 block of Walworth Street in Greenville.

Accor-ding to a report from the Green-ville Police Department officers responded at approximately 10:52 a.m. that day to a call of shots fired at 1204 Walworth and detained Martin and one other individual believed to be involved in the incident.

The indictments indicated Martin has two previous felony convictions for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and one conviction each for burglary and possession of a controlled substance.

Martin was arrested on the afternoon of January 15 by the Cumby Police Department for evading in a motor vehicle.

At the time, Martin was being sought for questioning following a shooting in the 2500 Block of Broadview earlier in that day.

Martin had been identified by the Greenville Police Department as one of the active participants in the shooting and was charged with five counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He has not yet been indicted in connection with the January 15 incident.

Martin remained in custody at the Hunt County Jail Wednesday  in lieu of a total of $985,000 in bonds.
