Halloween on the Square tonight

GREENVILLE — Hundreds of pirates, princesses, zombies, witches and superheroes are expected to swarm through downtown Greenville this evening, taking part in the 14th Annual Halloween on the Square, beginning at 4 p.m.

The event helps serve as the finale of DrugFree Greenville’s Red Ribbon Month activities.

Lee, Stonewall, Washington and Johnson Streets bordering the Hunt County Courthouse Square will be closed and businesses will be opening their doors for trick-or-treaters.

Halloween on the Square has been known to draw more than 1,000 children and their parents to participate and it is likely that close to that many will be on hand tonight, as once the rain moves out of the area, skies are forecast to turn mostly sunny with a high near 77.

It is expected to be windy, with gusts up to 30 mph and it may turn chilly during the evening, as the low overnight is predicted to dip down into the upper 40s.

Live music will be performed tonight by the Blandelles, there will be free popcorn available and $1 hot dogs will be offered during the evening.

There will be costume contests for ages 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 and there are also expected to be inflatable slides and a bounce house. Additional information about Halloween on the Square is available by calling 903-457-3138.
