GISD eyeing bond election?

GREENVILLE — Greenville Independent School District officials may be considering a bond election next spring, to raise funds to pay for unspecified improvements to campuses or other buildings in the district.

The Greenville ISD board of trustees is scheduled this week to receive an assessment concerning an assessment of district facilities, and then to consider hiring a company to find out if local residents would support a bond proposal. Both items are included under the agenda for a called meeting of the board starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Wesley Martin Administration Building, 4004 Moulton Street.

Under reports, the board is scheduled to hear from Huckabee Architects, which will present an assessment of district facilities.

Under action items, the board is scheduled to consider hiring Baselice & Associates, Inc., an Austin-based research organization, to conduct a community survey  about a potential bond proposition. The data is expected to include Identifying the best “price-point” for a bond package by determining how much in bonds voters are willing to support.

Should the board eventually decide on pursuing a bond package, the earliest an election could be conducted would be May 2014.
