Bras for the Cause entries due

GREENVILLE — Entries for the fifth annual “Bras for the Cause” fundraising campaign can be turned in today or Tuesday, between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. at Landon Winery, 2508 Lee Street.

Proceeds from this year’s Bras for the Cause will go to Janice’s Closet — a special fitting room located at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville for women undergoing treatment for cancer — and the Hunt Regional Mobile Mammography Unit.

More than 200 women have already been helped by Janice’s Closet, which provides mastectomy bras, prostheses, wigs, compression garments, treatment gowns and other services free of charge to women in need of financial assistance.

Also, more than 65 percent of Hunt County women do not get yearly mammograms and it is hoped the Hunt Regional Mobile Mammography Unit will lower that percentage. The unit makes scheduled visits at businesses, churches, and other places to help screen women, providing early detection of breast cancer.

— Entries can be made with a real bra of any size or color, a swimsuit top, bustier or even one made from scratch from any material.

— The bras can be decorated using any theme or materials, as long as it remains “G” rated.

— Those entering a decorated bra must provide a way to display it, via a lingerie hanger, a “body/mannequin”, frame, or some type of plan to mount it on a wall or grid.

— Those entering bras are encouraged to shamelessly campaign for their creation. Judging will take place Thursday. Starting at 6 p.m., the bras will be displayed along Lee Street between The Texan Theater and Landon Winery. Voting is open until 8:30 p.m., with the awards ceremony schedled to begin 9:30 p.m.

Buffet dining will be available at Landon Bistro and Cup & Saucer Diner inside the Uptown Forum, 2610 Lee Street, and a cash wine & beverage bar will be at Landon Winery. A percentage of all food and beverage sales will be donated to the Bras for the Cause.

Additional information on Bras for the Cause can be found on the Calico Cat web page at www.calicocatgreenville.com/bras.
