Global positioning technology helped the Commerce Police Department arrest two people, one of whom was an escapee from a state hospital, who may have been involved in a carjacking in Garland.
The suspects were arrested Friday evening, after the department received a call from a car dealership in Forney.
According to a report from the department, the representative from the dealership told dispatchers one of the vehicles that they held a lien on had been reported stolen earlier that day.
A check of the car’s GPS revealed the vehicle was in 700 block of Park Street in Commerce.
Officers dispatched to the area found the car with a man and a woman inside and took both subjects into custody.
The woman, Sherrie Bowen of Commerce, was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamines, prescription pills and marijuana.
Leslie Ellison of Terrell was found to be in possession of methamphetamines.
After the suspects were transported to the Commerce Police Department, officers learned Ellison had an escape alert from the Terrell State Hospital, a robbery warrant and three burglary of a motor vehicle warrants out of Collin County as well as an assault on a public servant warrant out of Freestone County.
Ellison was charged with felony theft and possession of a controlled substance, while Bowen was charged with possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Later the subjects were transported to The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office.
Bowen was not listed as in custody at the Hunt County Jail as of Monday morning.
Ellison was transported back to the Terrell State Hospital.
