Council to again consider sale of building

GREENVILLE — The Greenville City Council will try again Tuesday to sell a vacant local building.

The council decided in February against the sale of the property at 2800 Oneal Street for $5,000.

The council is now considering selling the structure “as is” for $15,000, with the vote scheduled during Tuesday’s regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building 2821 Washington Street. A work session is set for 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The empty structure had previously been offered up for sale at a minimum bid of just under $21,000 through the Hunt County tax Assessor-Collector’s Office, which had foreclosed on the property for back taxes owed the City of Greenville, the Greenville Independent School District, Hunt County and the Hunt Memorial Hospital District.

The bid offered reflected the amount of back taxes owed the entities.

Three months ago, City Attorney Daniel Ray said the site was then added to the struck-off properties and Tax Assessor-Collector Randy Wineinger was asking all taxing entities with jurisdiction on the property to approve the new bid of $5,000 cash.

But a new bid has been submitted from D&D Acquisitions Inc., with plans to remodel and lease the property for commercial/retail use. The building would be sold “as is”, with the money split between the taking entities.

City Manager Massoud Ebrahim is recommending the council approve the sale.
