Having lunch with a Hero

DrugFree Greenville Heroes Luncheons this week

GREENVILLE — Hundreds of local school children get to have lunch with their heroes this week, courtesy of Drug Free Greenville.

Greenville Independent School District students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be participating in the Heroes Luncheons, scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center.

The children will get to meet McGruff the Crime Dog and have lunch with members from the Greenville Police and Greenville Fire-Rescue Departments, Hunt County EMS and Air Evac Lifeteam.

The students will be transported to the Civic Center in three different sessions each day; 10:45 to 11:15 a.m., from 11:30 a.m. to noon and from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.

DrugFree Greenville Executive Director Bonita Malone said the largest group, from Bowie Elementary, is expected to be on hand for Tuesday’s first session.

DrugFree Greenville is also actively preparing for this year’s Walkathon event — Walk Dynasty — on May 3.
