A&M-Commerce expanding student center

COMMERCE — Only four years after the original ground breaking, the Rayburn Student Center (RSC) at Texas A&M University-Commerce is breaking ground again.

The RSC is being expanded by 28,000 square feet to the south of where it sits on 2243 West Neal Street.

“The fact that we are having to add on after only four years says something about our growth and student involvement,” Mary Hendrix, vice president of student access and success at A&M-Commerce, said.

A&M-Commerce is in the top five universities in the state in student growth, and has grown by 1,000 students each year for the past three years.

Dan Jones, president of A&M-Commerce said his vision of increased enrollment was a community effort.

“All of you who are in the room have made this possible,” he said. “We are the university that cares. Where you’re not a number, you’re a name.”

A total of 41 organizations contributed to the expansion.

The expansion will include a new special events room and more office suites, and will double both the dining room seats and meeting places that are currently available in the RSC.
