Elections draws only one contested race

GREENVILLE — There are only 10 days left in the filing period for the May 11 Greenville City Council and Greenville Independent School District board elections.

As of Friday only one contested race had formed among the five seats which are to be decided during the elections, with an unexpired term on the school board having drawn no candidates so far.

Three people had filed for the two seats to decided on the Council, and the two incumbents on the Greenville ISD board had thrown their hats in the ring.

Filing for both elections continues through March 1.

Places 1 and 2 on the Council will be decided. Dan Perkins currently serves in Place 1 and Dr. Joe Perks serves in Place 2.

Perkins and Tyson Cox have filed for the Place 1 seat, while James Evans has filed for the Place 2 post.

Candidate packets are available at the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street.

Places 1 and 6 and an unexpired term in Place 4 will be decided in the Greenville ISD board election.

Current board president Anne Haynes serves in Place 1, while Slack Brown serves in Place 2. Both have filed seeking reelection.

Trudy Wineinger is filling an unexpired term in the Place 4 seat, which is also on the May 11 ballot. No one had announced or filed for the position as of Friday.

Candidate packets are available in the Director of Community Services’ Office at 4004 Moulton Street, Room 102.

April 11 is the last day to register to vote for the election, with early voting scheduled between April 29 and May 7.
