Water park one step closer to construction

GREENVILLE — Splash Kingdom is getting closer to starting construction on a water park as part of the Greenville Towne Center.

City Manager Massoud Ebrahim said the city has given the Canton-based company the go-ahead to begin working on water and sewer infrastructure for the project.

“Last week we authorized them to get their construction trailer on site, and to have electricity for their consrtruction trailer,” Ebrahim said.

An official start date for the water park has not been announced, but it is expected the park will be open during the upcoming summer season.

“We will do whatever we can to expedite the project,” Ebrahim said.

The Greenville City Council voted November 19 to enter into an economic development agreement to bring Splash Kingdom to the city.

Splash Kingdom is also expected to serve as the anchor for the Greenville Towne Center project along the Interstate 30 frontage road, as multiple restaurants are reportedly interested in building near the water park.

The official announcement is expected to reveal specifics about what will be included in the park and may also include artist’s conceptions of what the water park will look like once completed.

Under the economic development agreement Splash Kingdom will spend $5 million to build the park, which would include no less than one major water slide, a lazy river, a wave pool, a children’s wading area, offices, concessions and parking.
