Time to meet candidates

GREENVILLE — The start of voting for the March Republican and Democratic Party primary elections is just over a month away, so it is time to start meeting the candidates who will be on the ballot in the contested Hunt County races.

The Hunt County GOP Club has scheduled a candidate’s forum for 7 p.m. next Monday, January 13, at the Landmark on Lee Street, 2920 Lee in Greenville. The event will be the first of two forums sponsored by the club.

The candidates for the offices of District Clerk, Hunt County Judge, Commissioner Precinct 2 and  Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Place 2 are expected to participate in the forum. Each candidate will be given two questions each and a chance to respond to their opponent.

Incumbent District Clerk Stacey Landrum is facing Charla “Twins” Campbell-Turner in the Republican primary.

Incumbent Hunt County Judge John Horn will face Jerry Minter in the GOP primary election.

Tod McMahan and Andy Hunt are vying for the nomination in the Republican Party primary for the office of Hunt County Commissioner Precinct 2.

Incumbent Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Place 2 Shelia Linden  is being challenged by fellow Republican Wayne Gilmore.

The primaries will be held on March 4, 2014. Early voting is scheduled February 8-28, 2014.
