Still no triple digits

GREENVILLE — Greenville still has not recorded an official 100-degree day this year.

If it doesn’t reach the triple digit mark today, it might not get close again for a while, as an unusually powerful summertime cool front is expected to arrive early next week.

Majors Field, the City of Greenville Municipal Airport, recorded an official high of 97 degrees Thursday, the second day in a row the mark was set, which is as high as the mercury has climbed locally so far this summer.

As of Thursday evening, the National Weather Service forecast was calling for a high near 99 this afternoon, but with heat index values — what it feels like when the humidity is factored in — of as high as 103 degrees.

There was also a very slight, 10 percent, chance of showers or thunderstorms this afternoon as winds shift to the north northwest with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Winds will still be out of the north on Saturday, with a high expected near 94 degrees,

And that is when things are forecast to turn downright chilly, in terms of July in Texas.

After a low around 68 Saturday night, the high Sunday is expected to rise to 89 degrees, with another chance of showers and thunderstorms.

The highs are forecast to reach the upper 80s, with lows in the mid 60s, both Monday and Tuesday.
