Probation in child murder case revoked

GREENVILLE — A local man’s probation on a charge of murder in connection with the death of his infant daughter has been revoked, after he admitted to driving without a license.

Rickey Allen Turner Jr. will learn next week whether he will be sentenced to prison.

Turner entered pleas of “true” on April 3 to allegations he had violated his probation. At that time, 196th District Court Judge Steve Tittle found Turner had violated his probation and scheduled a final hearing for Wednesday morning.

During the hearing, Tittle ordered Turner’s probation revoked and scheduled an April 24 sentencing hearing.

Turner, 26, of Greenville was convicted of a juvenile charge of murder in October 2005. Turner had been accused of causing the death of his daughter, two-month old Kirriomma Turner, in March 2004, when he was 16 years old.

The judge in the case sentenced Turner to 10 years in prison, then probated the sentence for 10 years.

Turner was given 60 days in jail as a sanction on his probation after he was arrested last year for driving while his license was suspended and a motion to revoke his probation was dismissed.

Turner was arrested by the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office again on the evening of January 21 after being found driving without a license for the third time.

Another motion to revoke Turner’s probation on the murder charge was filed February 6 and he was also alleged to not be participating in the community service restitution program.
