Teens plead guilty to 2012 burglary

GREENVILLE — Two local teenagers have pleaded guilty to breaking into a home near Royse City last summer.

Oshay Xavier Scott Carter and Demarquez Dijuan Pugh were placed on probation, fined and ordered to pay thousands of dollars in restitution.

Carter, 18, and Pugh, 18, both of Greenville, each received one indictment from the Hunt County grand jury in November for burglary of a habitation.

The pair were taken into custody on Aug. 16, 2012 by the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office  in connection with the break-in.

Accor-ding to a report from the sheriff’s office, a residential burglary occurred at around 4:30 a.m. Aug. 5, 2012 at a residence near Hunt County Road 2584 near Royse City.

The offense was captured on a video surveillance system where the suspects were alleged to have stolen jewelry, electronics — including computers and a television — and approximately $200 in cash.

Carter and Pugh entered the pleas during a hearing Tuesday in the 354th District Court.

Under a plea bargain arrangement, both Carter and Pugh were placed on five years of deferred adjudication probation, were each fined $500, were ordered to complete 120 hours of community service and were each ordered to pay $9,200 in restitution.

Deferred adjudication probation carries no finding of guilt, although those defendants who are found to have violated a deferred probation are subject to being sentenced to the maximum punishment.

The charges were second-degree felonies, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from two to 20 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
