Commissioners to vote on quitclaim deed for Majors Field

GREENVILLE — As the Greenville City Council prepares to agree to a long term lease with L-3 Communications Integrated Systems, under which L-3 would take over most of the operations at Majors Field Municipal Airport, the Hunt County Commissioners Court may be set to relinquish the county’s interests at the airport to the City of Greenville,

The commissioners are scheduled to consider approving a quitclaim deed to the city, as part of the agenda for Tuesday’s regular agenda, scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Auxiliary Courtroom, 2700 Johnson Street, in Greenville.

By definition, a quitclaim deed is a legal instrument by which the owner of a piece of real property, called the grantor, transfers his or her interest to a recipient, called the grantee. The owner/grantor terminates (“quits”) his or her right and claim to the property, thereby allowing claim to transfer to the recipient/grantee.

County Attorney Joel Littlefield is scheduled to present the quitclaim deed to the commissioners Tuesday, for the property owned by the City of Greenville at Majors Field. The quitclaim deed is also set to be considered during an executive session as part of Tuesday’s meeting.

If the commissioners take any action, they would return to the regular session to do so.
