Charlie Daniels Band to appear in Greenville

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Municipal Auditorium (GMA), is pleased to present The Charlie Daniels Band in concert at 7 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the GMA, 2821 Washington Street, Greenville, Texas.

GMA events are partially staffed by volunteers from United Way of Hunt County, who work these events without compensation. United Way volunteers are grateful to accept donations from concert attendees to benefit the non-profit’s charitable endeavors.

From his Dove Award-winning gospel albums to southern rock anthems and Country Music Association (CMA) Award-winning country hits, few artists have left a more indelible mark on America’s musical landscape than Charlie Daniels. An outspoken patriot, mentor to young artists and touring musician, Daniels has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military and the underprivileged.

Daniels began his career playing bluegrass with the Misty Mountain Boys and later made a name for himself as a songwriter, session musician and producer. Elvis Presley recorded a tune Daniels co-wrote titled “It Hurts Me,” which was released on the flip side of “Kissin’ Cousins.”

Daniels recorded a self-titled solo album in 1970 for Capitol Records and formed the Charlie Daniels Band (CDB) two years later. The group scored its first hit with the top ten “Uneasy Rider.” Other hits include “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America” and “The Legend of Wooley Swamp”. CDB’s most famous song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979, and single of the year at the CMA Awards.

“I love what I do,” says Daniels of his 50-plus years in the music business. “I look forward to entertaining people. When show time gets here, I’m ready to go, ready to go play for them. It’s a labor of love. I just thank God I make a living at what I enjoy doing.”

Daniels was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and Musicians Hall of Fame. He won Academy of Country Music’s Pioneer Award, was named a BMI Icon for his songwriting and has a star on the Music City Walk of Fame

Tickets go on sale at 8 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at the GMA, 2821 Washington Street and at www.ShowtimeAtTheGMA.com. Tickets range from $40 to $70. For more information call 903-457-2994 or visit www.ShowtimeAtTheGMA.com.
