UPDATE: Victim, shooter identified

One dead, one seriously wounded in double shooting

(Continued)

ROYSE CITY —

ORIGINAL: A shooting incident that occurred Friday morning in the middle of a Royse City residential street left a man dead and a woman seriously wounded.

Officers at the scene of the shooting – the 400 block of Cookston Lane – did not know the condition of the woman. They could say only that she was still alive when she was transported from the scene by ambulance to a Dallas hospital.

Police Chief Jeff Stapleton said names of the victims – believed to be husband and wife – could not be released because he wasn't sure whether next-of-kin had been notified. He said the couple had a daughter who was at school when the shooting occurred.

Stapleton said the first call came to police about 9 a.m. as "shots fired." Then, he said, there were reports that possibly two suspects were involved in a shooting incident. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two bodies in the street.

The police chief said officers interviewed a second man who was thought initially to be a suspect. They determined, however, that apparently the man witnessed the shooting.

The shooting occurred in front of the couple's home.

This story will be updated as more information is received.
